The Latest: 'Ski the Sun' & 'Cross the Fingers'
Back in The Day there was a saying at Squaw that became a popular poster: "Ski The Sun." It's been ringing true since the sneaker storms slowed last week and we've been watching the mountain change yet again. The south-facing stuff has been getting pleasantly cooked which simply takes away those excuses for not riding fat boards every day. I always get a kick seeing someone on Shane's Spatulas when there hasn't been recent snow. The funny thing is that if you look around you'll still find wintery turns out there, too.
Quickie Ski News: Speaking of Shane, have you noticed how many tracks are getting laid down on Eagle's Nest, now known as McConkey's? This is one of the steepest, most raw lines at Squaw and has been measured at over 68-degrees pitch. It's an in-bounds hike that starts from the cat track as you go from KT towards Olympic Lady / Red Dog Ridge. Stop there and look up to see the metal eagle perched on a rock in memory of Shane. This week I saw a kid skiing it with Spatulas - classic.
As far as crossing your fingers goes, let's hope this next storm cycle brings some new fluff to our favorite hill. As we learned over the last few weeks, all it takes is a little and we're set!!
