Fire and Ice: The Story of Tahoe's Ancient Volcanoes presented by the Squaw Valley Institute
September 27, 2009
Frank DeCourten, Professor of Earth Sciences at Sierra College, will lead another fantastic day involving the study of Geology of the Sierra Nevadas, including a morning lecture and afternoon hike at Northstar. This program will be a field exploration of the geology of the Tahoe basin region. The lecture will explain the geology features to be explored on the hike. The illustrated lecture will stress the origin of the unique rock units and prominent landforms in the northern Sierra.
Part of Squaw Valley Institute's Adventure In Your Backyard Series, this geology day features a morning lecture, followed by lunch on your own in the Village at Northstar, then a guided hike at the top of the Northstar Gondola.
