Hetch Hetchy presented by the Squaw Valley Institute
September 24, 2009
Sarah Null works as a post-doctoral scholar at UC Davis researching water management, climate change, aquatic restoration, and dam removal. After graduating from UCLA with a B.A. in economics, Sarah moved to the eastern Sierra Nevada, where she worked as a ski patroller at Mammoth Mountain and as a naturalist at Mono Lake. While at Mono Lake, she developed an interest in California's water use and returned to graduate school at UC Davis to study water resource management. As a masters student, Sarah studied potential water storage and supply implications of removing Hetch Hetchy Valley's O'Shaughnessy Dam in Yosemite National Park. Sarah then received a grant from the US EPA to continue her studies, so as a PhD student she modeled river flow and water temperature in California's Shasta River to enhance instream habitat for native salmon species. Sarah currently lives in Truckee, California, and spends her winters skiing in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Her favorite ski trips are Mt. Lassen and Mt. Shasta. In summers she has no choice but to switch to kayaking, climbing, and hiking.
