The Latest: Sneaker Storms
Since the big cycle that vacationed in Tahoe for half of January left town the name of the game has been this: sneaky storms. While the North Shore of Tahoe and also Truckee have gotten missed by most of the action the Pacific Crest has been mostly shrouded for a week. The result has been moderate accumulations just about every night and there’s been enough wind to move it all around into those sweet nooks that we love to stumble upon. Did you know that wind can move snow at a factor of 10:1?
If you’re a better skier than mathematician this means that just a couple inches of snow over here can blow into drifts over there as deep as two feet. It’s been an awesome week of riding thanks to getting just enough snow and wind plus just enough cloud cover to keep everything nice and chilly. Highlights have been everything under Cornice II, the windbuff on Headwall Face and Silverado (again!)…
In the pic above note the two guys about to drop a 50-footer in Silvy this Friday.
