Squaw Valley provides a variety of ski programs for kids and adults of all ages.

Shooting Stars (4+)

Kids have fun as they develop skills and a love for skiing.  Our specially trained coaches provide an environment for children to thrive as their skiing and their confidence improves. We focus on team building, responsible all mountain skiing and instilling respect for the environment and for fellow skiers.

Breaks and Snacks We ski and get mileage!  However, we usually take a short break for a quick snack.  Please provide a pocket snack and $2 for hot chocolate, but no candy.

Requirements

  1. Child needs to be able to make controlled linked turns on beginner terrain.
  2. Must be 4 years old as of December 1, 2011. No exceptions. Birth certificates are required prior to skiing.
  3. There will be a consecutive two weekend trial period for all 4 year olds that must be completed prior to December 19, 2011.
  4. Skiers must be able to leave their parents and be ready to ski without their parents.
  5. Skiers must have had ski lessons or skied the prior season.
  6. Skiers must be able to turn and stop by themselves.
  7. Must be comfortable loading and unloading chair lifts.
  8. Must ski with the Shooting Stars program a minimum of 8 days in December.
  9. Use of leash or edgie-wedgie training aides is not alowed.

Mighty Mites (5-8)

Our Mighty Mite program is dedicated to developing kids who will gain amazing skiing skills and form lasting friendships in a team environment. We focus on skill building, team building, responsible skiing etiquette and code of conduct, respect for the mountain and winter environment, individual confidence, and FUN.  Our goal is that each Mighty gain a solid foundation that will enable him/her to continue in our development programs.

Lunch Options  
Mighty Meals New this season - hot lunch at our on-mountain facility, 39 Degrees. Meals will include entrée, side, drink, dessert. Our menu will be full of enticing and healthy options for your child. Buy the meal program with the purchase of your Mighty Mite program or pay as you go.
Sack Lunches Bring your own and we'll transport it for your Mighty Mite to the lunch Room. Dave's Deli will also be selling sack lunches again this season.

Requirements

  1. Must be 5-8 years old by December 31, 2011. No exceptions.
  2. Children must be advanced beginners and able to turn and stop on their own.  
  3. Children must have taken already taken lessons or skied for a year before signing up.
  4. Must attend at least five days during December.
  5. Children must be comfortable and able to load and unload chairlifts.
  6. Parents of new Mighty Mites must provide a description of their child's skiing ability at registration.
  7. Helmets & eye protection are required for all team members.
  8. Use of leash or edgie-wedgie training aides is not allowed.
  9. Uniforms are optional and are available for purchase through the Squaw Valley Sport Shop at the beginning of the season. You may call them directly at (530) 583-3356 for more information.

Uniforms

The Mighty Mite's do have a uniform option.  They are not required, but they are offered to us at a great deal and they are an amazing quality jacket and pant set from Spyder.  A limited amount is still available at the Squaw Valley Sports Shop, as well as many layering options from Spyder to keep your kids warm. Contact the SVSS directly at 530-583-3356 to check on availability.

Mighty Mite Schedule

Ages 9-18

Big Mountain Program

This program is available to young skiers ages 9 to 18.  Big Mountain focuses on skiing steep and technical terrain in powder, crud, and other variable conditions.  Our coaching staff will teach these skiers the skills to pick a line in technical terrain and ski it safely.  Athletes will also have the opportunity to compete in the Tahoe Jr. Freeride series, as well as the Big Mountain Squaw Cup events.

Big Mountain Schedule

Tahoe League

This program is designed for young skiers ages 9 to 18 who want to further develop and improve their all around skiing skills and develop their racing skills.  It is a stepping stone to our Far West programs.  Athletes can compete in the Tahoe League race series.

SVTL Calendar

Ages 9-21

Skier Cross

This is a program for strong independent skiers who want to improve their racing abilities in a competitive skier cross atmosphere. Skier cross courses have rollers, jumps, and banked turns. We offer start-gate training, gate training with features and without, and we work on all-mountain skiing to develop strong, competitive athletes. In this program athletes are given the opportunity to reach their own goals including striving for the US Skier Cross Team.

Breaks and Snacks We ski and get mileage!  Therefore, we do not plan a break into our daily schedule expect on very cold or windy days.  For these occasions it is advisable to give your child at least $2 for purchase of hot chocolate.  A pocket snack is always a good idea, but no candy, please!

Requirements

  2. Athletes must have participated in a ski program prior to this season.
  3. Advanced intermediate skiers.
  4. Two weekend trial period for all new members to the SV Skier Cross team
  5. Positive attitude and team participation are needed

Far West Programs

The Far West team is a competitive race program for skiers ages 9 to 21.  This team focuses on gate training, race specific and free skiing drills, and video analysis.  Athletes must be invited to participate in this program or must have been enrolled in an equivalent program at another resort to be eligible. Our highly credentialed and experienced coaches use sophisticated training methodology and materials to provide the best training and development opportunities for our athletes.

Masters Programs

Masters racing is a division of the U.S. Ski Association and is designed for every level of skier ability, from entry level racers through ex-national team members. Masters racing provides the next step for up and coming accomplished skiers who are late bloomers, NASTAR and college racers, ski instructors, former professional racers and even ex-national team members.
