Squaw Valley, CA: Voted Favorite Resort
By OnTheSnow on April 22, 2008
Orinda, California: What's the favorite overall Far West ski resort of visitors to OnTheSnow.com, the oldest and most-visited snow sports portal on the Internet? It's Squaw Valley, Calif. The Web site, which attracts an audited 1.2 million individuals monthly during the winter, gave its visitors the opportunity to write reviews of all North American resorts and rank them in five categories. Squaw Valley was highest in the overall favorite category. The ratings were based primarily on readers' average ranking, number of reviews, and specific comments made in OnTheSnow.com over the winter season. "More and more skiers and snowboarders are relying on the word of their peers when they make resort choices," said Mountain News President and Publisher Rob Brown, whose company publishes OnTheSnow.com. "We believe the importance of reader advisories will continue to grow each year and these annual awards provide a peek into their thinking."Reviewers were clear in their comments: "Squaw is a mountain where you just pick a lift, get off, and go wherever your heart desires and your skill level allows! There are definitely amazing and challenging runs on lift-accessed terrain - KT-22, Silverado, Headwall, Granite Chief, not to mention the hike to Palisades… The views are incredible… Terrain with wide open bowls… Great technical terrain."
Squaw, site of the 1960 Winter Olympic Games, is carved from six peaks spread over 4,000 acres and served by 30 lifts. Some say the resort is the very definition of down-to-earth carving. Its slopes are ideal for freeskiers and adrenaline junkies attracted to hair-raising chutes, intense steeps, and gnarly rock faces. OnTheSnow.com is the web's most visited snow skiing web site with a Nielsen audited 1.2 million monthly unique visitors. The site offers the ski reports, ski resort reviews, web cams, and skiing deals for virtually every ski resort in the world. There are 13 Interntaional Editions of OnTheSnow in seven languages.OLYMPIC ICE PAVILION RECEIVES 2008 BEST OF OLYMPIC VALLEY AWARD
