Over the years we have sponsored a number of members of the local communities to attend avalanche education courses. Additionally, during the ski season, the Squaw Valley Ski Patrol conducts weekly on snow avalanche transceiver clinics that are free to the public. These clinics are one of the ways we directly give back to our community.
Over the past 20 years, funds raised from this event have accomplished the following:
Awarded approximately 290 full-ride scholarships to members of the community. This allowed each scholarship recipient to attend a Level 1 Avalanche Courses at Alpine Skills International or through the Association of Professional Patrollers.
Taught nearly 1,900 people avalanche awareness and transceivers skills at our FREE weekly clinics. Terrain recognition and mountain weather were among the topics covered in addition to the hands-on beacon practice.
Hosted and co-produced the annual Steep & Deep clinic – a multimedia event featuring industry experts and some of the top skiers in the world and attended by over 3,000 adults and school-age children.
Installed and maintained BCA beacon basin located at the base of Squaw Valley. Available to the public for the practice and training of proper transceiver use.
