Free Guided Hikes
Join one of Squaw’s experienced hiking guides for a memorable mountain experience. You will start out from the top of Squaw Valley’s Aerial Tram at High Camp (elevation 8200’) to begin your adventure. In addition to the spectacular views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding mountains, take in the beauty of the meadow wild flowers exploding into bloom. Hiking trails abound for all levels of ability.
Our guides will share their knowledge of the area from the history of Squaw Valley to the flora and fauna you will encounter.
Thank you for a wonderful summer! Guided hikes are no longer available for the season. Do your snow dance because opening day is November 21 weather and conditions permitting.
Free Guided Hikes
Squaw Valley's free guided hikes on the 1.5 mile High Camp Interpretive Trail leave two times per day Friday-Sunday from High Camp. Hikes depart High Camp at 12:30pm and 2:30pm, weather and conditions permitting. Hikes will be based on group ability and size. Some trails are “sport” type stroller friendly. Sturdy shoes, water, sunscreen and a camera are highly recommended. Groups of ten or more please call in advance for space availability 530-452-7273.

All hikes depart from the lawn at High Camp. Hike difficulty will be based on the group ability and size.

Squaw Valley has partnered with the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS) to offer you the below special guided hikes focusing on birds, geology, and wildflowers!

An outing specifically searching for Gray-crowned Rosy-Finches, a charismatic bird that nests at Tahoe's highest elevations. Many other species are possible at High Camp, including Golden Eagles, American Pipits, Mountain Bluebirds, and Brewer's Sparrows. This outing will focus more on alpine birds than on covering terrain, but we may have to hike around a bit to find the rosy-finches. Will Richardson will lead. Bring binoculars, water, snacks, and sunscreen, and dress appropriately.

A geology hike out of Squaw Valley's High Camp that focus on the geologic phenomena visible around and from High Camp and also address any birds, wildflowers, whatever other natural history stories we come across. Sierra Nevada College professor Andy Rost and TINS co-founder Will Richardson will co-lead the hike. Bring water, snacks, and sunscreen, and dress appropriately.

For all special guided hikes, meet at Aerial Tram building. Please arrive a few minutes early to purchase tram ticket and meet the group. Last tram down is at 4:30. Tahoe Institute for Natural Science members receive $10 discount off Aerial Tram tickets. Please be prepared to show membership upon arrival.
As brilliant blue skies and warm temperatures return to the Sierras, Squaw Valley prepares to open for summer 2013. This summer brings a variety of outdoor activities including base area paintball, roller skating, geocaching, disc golf, hiking, scenic Aerial Tram rides and the High Camp Pool and Hot Tub. With incredible views of Lake Tahoe in a pristine alpine setting, Squaw Valley is the ultimate destination for this summer's big adventures.
Thanks for joining us this season. The highlights were many. From an opening day in October to the US Alpine Championships. We've put a few of our favorite moments together in the video above. We hope you'll enjoy reliving some of the season. We'll miss skiing and riding but will content ourselves with hiking, biking, Lake Tahoe, golf, kayaking, and enjoying these majestic mountains. The 23rd Annual Cushing Crossing will be the best event of the spring season. The original pond skimming event that started a spring resort ritual. Every year we gather a celebrity judging panel and amazing emcee's for this spectacle. Filled with big spills and laughable thrills this is one spring event that you don't want to miss.
Registration for this event is $20 and is limited to 50 entrants. Lift ticket not required for entry.
