Squaw Valley Snowboard Team

The Snowboard Team is a group of very enthusiastic athletes who love to snowboard and have a good time. They are separated into groups based upon riding ability so everyone can learn at their own pace. We offer both racing and freestyle coaching to the very beginner as well as the seasoned competitor. That includes gate training, half-pipe training and free-riding.

The goals of our program are:

  1. Fun.
  2. Improved snowboarding ability.
  3. Safety and understanding of the mountain.

Eligibility

The Snowboard program is open to riders age 8 and older (by December 31, 2007). Snowboarding skills are not used to determine eligibility but rather to divide riders into appropriate groups.

The Daily Snowboard Team Schedule:

Full-Time Ability Team

Saturday, Sunday, Holidays & School vacations 8:15am to 3pm
Tuesday through Friday 9am to 4pm

Weekend Ability Team

Saturday, Sunday, Holidays & School vacations 8:15am to 3pm

Full-Time Junior 8-12 Team

Saturday, Sunday, Holidays & School vacations 8:15am to 3pm
Wednesday & Thursday 1pm to 4pm and Friday 9am-4pm

Weekend Junior 8-12 Team

Saturday, Sunday, Holidays & School vacations 8:15am to 3pm

It is essential that everyone begins riding with the program prior to December 31st. Those who have not participated with the program prior to December 31st may be dropped from the roster. It is also very important that attendance be consistent. We recommend that all of our Snowboard Team members ride at least four times per month and during holiday breaks.

Lunch

The Snowboard Team has a supervised lunch from 11:45 to 12:30, downstairs in the Olympic House, next to the Cookie Shop. Each rider needs to provide his or her own lunch which will be stored during morning training. If you miss the morning meeting time, you can always catch us at lunchtime.

Breaks

We do not usually take breaks, except on very cold or windy days. It is a good idea to give your child $2 for hot chocolate for these occasions. A pocket snack is also always a good idea.

Storm Days

Since the first goal of the Squaw Valley Snowboard Team is to have fun, we do not ride (or meet) on poor weather days. Our two worst enemies are wind and rain, as they either make the mountain too dangerous, or the kids too wet! We try to ride on snowy days if possible.

On inclement weather days, please call the Squaw Valley Ski & Snowboard Team office after 7:30 am, at 530-581-7270 or check the Squaw Valley Ski Team website.
